Meet Results: Steve Jones Relay on March 4, 2017

The boys Varsity won the Distance relay and came in second in the 4X800. The F/S boys A team won the 4X800 and came in 3rd in the Distance relay. B team came in 5th in 4X8 and 6th in DM. The Varsity boys won the 4X400.

On the girls side the A team won the 4X800 and set a new school record in 10:05.24! breaking the old record of 10:08 just set last year. Sophia ran 2:29,Lauren 2:34,Taylor 2:34 and Megan A 2:24. The A team also won the DM. The B team came in 3rd place in the 4X800 and 3rd in the DM. The Varsity girls came in 3rd in the 4X400.

This was a great first meet for Rio! Lots of medals.

Rio Track & Field welcomes Lea Wallace to coaching staff

Lea Wallace - USA Track & Field Middle Distance RunnerThe Rio Americano High School Track & Field program would like to welcome highly decorated middle distance runner, Lea Wallace, to the coaching staff.

Lea is four-time NCAA All-American with Personal Records of 2:00.30 in the 800m and 4:09.13 in the 1500m.

A reminder about conditioning on Tu/Wed/Th from 3:10 – 4:30 PM

The coaching staff will be holding practices on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:10 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Distance runners meet in the regular XC location while all others meet in the P.E. Breezeway.

New All-Weather Track and Field Coming in 2018

Success! Rio Field of Dreams 2018

Thanks to our grassroots efforts, support of Measure P, leadership from Principal Ginter, and most of all SJUSD Facilities Director, Frank Camarda, who has worked with us to make sure Rio is seeing the facilities improvements it deserves Rio will finally be getting our all-weather track and field by the summer of 2018!

But our work isn’t done. The current plan has upgraded bathrooms but no bleachers. As we iron out what the district will be responsible for, the school has funds for, and what the Rio community can do to enhance the stadium it is understood that fundraising will be needed to give our student athletes the best facilities possible…continue reading at OneRio

Spring Sports 2017

The first day of Tryouts for Spring sports will be February 6, 2017. All athletes must be cleared by the Athletics office prior to the first day of tryouts in order to participate.
