|Good News! There is a plan to return to competition and a tentative calendar for sports seasons.|
We will start Rio Cross Country conditioning on February 8, 2021 and have a tentative start date of official Rio XC practice and season of February 15th. The Cross Country season is scheduled for February 15 through April 5th. All sports seasons will consist of league competition only, as the SJS/CIF Championships have been canceled.
The Cross Country official team store is now open. The store will only be open for one week so please order your uniforms ASAP. These uniforms are good for all 4 years at Rio including track and field. Only mandatory items are race top and spandex bottoms for girls and race top and race shorts for boys everything else is non essential and for fun. Here is the link to our store.
Track and Field
Track season is scheduled for April 26th through June 12th. We expect an optional pre-season conditioning for track to begin in early April.
Prior to participating in any Rio sports activities (including conditioning) all athletes must be cleared on SportsNet by the Athletic Department.
All athletes must have a current sports physical on file in SportsNet. If you are having difficulty getting an appointment with your primary doctor prior to July 29th, Dr. Sokolov’s office is available for sports physicals on a walk in basis Monday – Friday. Bring $30 cash and the Sports Physical form. The office is located at 1 Scripps Drive and is closed for lunch.
Please make sure your clearance and all online waivers are complete! You will not be able to participate if you have not been cleared! You can find instructions on the clearance process here.
Due to Covid Guidelines, no athletes are allowed to participate in any club sports while participating in a sport at Rio Americano. This was established in order to reduce the number of contacts between Rio athlete cohorts at school and outside clubs. Additionally, when switching seasons from one sport to another there is a 14 day quarantine requirement. This will require any athletes participating in both Cross Country and Track to have a 14 day off period between the end of Cross Country and the start of any Track conditioning or practice.

Monday – Friday: 3:30pm @ Rio Americano
Saturdays: 9:00 to 10:30am @ TBD
Coach Anton and Coach Stacey will be taking the temperature of each student before every conditioning or practice. All athletes will be placed in a training group (cohort) no larger than 25, and social distancing will be strongly enforced. If you are still concerned about Covid risks to your family please keep your child at home and they can continue to train on their own.
