Rio Track & Field Weekly Communication: March 14, 2020

COVID-19 UPDATE

Due to the highly fluid situation with constantly changing circumstances related to COVID-19, the district has made the decision to close San Juan Unified campuses to students as of Monday, March 16th. Campuses will be closed to students through the end of spring break (Sunday, April 12th), including athletics and all extracurricular activities.

Track is currently “in-season” meaning coaches are allowed to communicate with athletes/families via emails/website; however, we cannot hold official practices at Rio or any other location. Please do not jump the fence into the Rio Stadium or workout at school, which may come across as practice.

We are encouraging all athletes to continue training on their own in anticipation of the restart of our season in mid-April. Relevant dates, workout plans, and updated season information will be sent out on a continuing basis.

While we have seen the competition schedule get postponed or canceled we are hopeful we will be able to resume practice and competition when the Rio campus reopens on April 13th.

The coaching staff is remaining positive and encouraging our athletes to look at the opportunities this brings vs looking at the disruption to the season. Athletes can adjust workouts focusing on individual or event needs, they can do video review of your event specialty, and focus on nutrition.

As of this time we have received notice that our meets through April 4th have been postponed. This includes Title IX Meet at ARC March 14th; Capital Athletic League Meet #1 at Rio Americano March 19th; The Dublin Distance Fiesta March 20-21; The Bronco Distance & Pole Vault Carnival March 27th; Thunder Invitational March 28th; and the Stanford Invite April 3rd & 4th.

Coaches will continue to communicate updates and schedule changes to the athletes however, you can check riotrackxc.com for the current Track & Field calendar as well as any news updates.

Additionally, if you use Google Calendars, you can add the Rio Track & Field calendar.
